THE CLIENT
A Miami-based travel and hospitality company with over $9.4 billion in annual revenue needed a data-driven method to determine optimal direct mail and email outreach frequency across multiple brands, replacing broad assumptions that were driving overspend in low-yield segments.
THE OUTCOME
The organization gained a scalable predictive modeling framework that quantified how different outreach frequencies influence conversion across guest segments. High-value segments with 2-10x higher responsiveness were identified, marketing spend was reallocated accordingly, and a reusable personalization engine was established for continuous optimization.
WHY WAS IT DIFFICULT
Existing outreach decisions were based on broad assumptions with no unified method to measure how varying communication frequency affected incremental bookings. The challenge spanned multiple brands, each requiring separate frequency optimization across direct mail, email, and combined channel strategies. No behavioral dataset existed to support segment-level modeling.
THE ENGINEERING JOURNEY
The team created a monthly customer-level dataset capturing both engagement and non-engagement patterns across all brands, developed multi-scenario machine learning models to assess how different outreach frequencies influence conversion, identified key behavioral drivers and grouped customers into segments for personalized targeting, and established a scalable optimization framework to support continuous testing and efficient budget allocation.
KEY DECISIONS
Multi-scenario modeling was chosen over a single-frequency recommendation to give the business flexibility to test and validate findings incrementally. Segment-level behavioral profiling was built as a reusable foundation rather than a one-time analysis, enabling the personalization engine to evolve as guest behavior data accumulates.
